Do SRECs ever expire?
Yes. SRECs have a limited lifespan and eventually expire if they are not sold.
When do SRECs expire?
In most state markets:
-
SRECs expire after three years
Once expired, an SREC:
-
Will still appear in your Sol Systems account and in GATS
-
Will no longer be eligible for sale
Does expiration affect SREC value?
Yes. As SRECs approach expiration:
-
They often become less attractive to buyers
-
They may become harder to sell
For this reason, we recommend signing up to sell SRECs as soon as your system is interconnected to help maximize value.
Can older SRECs still be sold?
Yes. If your system generated SRECs within the last few years, those SRECs may still be eligible for sale.
These legacy SRECs can be transferred to Sol Systems for brokerage, subject to state eligibility rules.
