# What is NEPOOL-GIS?

## The New England Power Pool Generation Information System (NEPOOL-GIS) is the tracking system that issues and tracks generation certificates, such as RECs and SRECs, for electricity produced in the ISO New England control area. NEPOOL-GIS also tracks eligible generation attributes imported from adjacent control areas.

### **What role does NEPOOL-GIS play in Massachusetts SRECs?**

For solar systems located in **Massachusetts**:

- **NEPOOL-GIS is responsible for minting (creating) SRECs**
- Minted SRECs are then available for sale through approved channels

### **Do Massachusetts customers report directly to NEPOOL-GIS?**

No. Massachusetts customers who are required to self-report **do not submit readings directly to NEPOOL-GIS**.

Instead:

- Self-reporting customers must enter production data into the **MassCEC Production Tracking System (PTS)**
- Production data is then used for SREC and REC issuance
