What is NEPOOL-GIS?

The New England Power Pool Generation Information System (NEPOOL-GIS) is the tracking system that issues and tracks generation certificates, such as RECs and SRECs, for electricity produced in the ISO New England control area. NEPOOL-GIS also tracks eligible generation attributes imported from adjacent control areas.

What role does NEPOOL-GIS play in Massachusetts SRECs?

For solar systems located in Massachusetts:

  • NEPOOL-GIS is responsible for minting (creating) SRECs

  • Minted SRECs are then available for sale through approved channels

Do Massachusetts customers report directly to NEPOOL-GIS?

No. Massachusetts customers who are required to self-report do not submit readings directly to NEPOOL-GIS.

Instead:

  • Self-reporting customers must enter production data into the MassCEC Production Tracking System (PTS)

  • Production data is then used for SREC and REC issuance
