What Is the 3G Network Sunset and How Does It Affect My Meter Readings?
The 3G network shutdown affects older solar meters and inverters that rely on 2G/3G cellular connections. If your system cannot communicate production data, SRECs may not be issued unless monitoring is updated.
Which Systems Are Affected
Only systems with older cellular-connected monitoring are impacted.
You are not affected if:
-
Your system reports via Wi-Fi or ethernet
-
Your system uses Estimated Production
-
You manually report your production
-
Your system was installed in 2019 or later
Systems Installed Before 2019
Your system may be affected if all of the following are true:
-
Installed before 2019
-
Does not use Estimated Production
-
Does not report production manually
-
Uses a cellular (non-Wi-Fi, non-ethernet) monitoring connection
If this applies, your system may stop reporting production once 3G service ends.
How to Check Your Reporting Method
-
Log in to the Sol Systems Dashboard
-
Click Systems in the top menu
-
Select View next to your system
-
Scroll to Reporting Method
If your reporting method shows Estimated Production, the 3G shutdown will not affect your SREC reporting.
What to Do If Something Looks Wrong
If you believe your system is affected:
-
Confirm your installation year and reporting method
-
Contact your installer about upgrading monitoring hardware if needed
-
Notify Sol Systems once monitoring has been updated
