# What is a New Jersey Certification Number?
## A New Jersey Certification Number is a state-issued identifier that allows a solar energy system to sell SRECs in the New Jersey market. All states with SREC programs require participating systems to obtain a state-specific certification number.
### **Who issues New Jersey Certification Numbers?**
New Jersey Certification Numbers are issued by the **New Jersey Clean Energy Program (NJCEP)**.
### **Why do I need to provide my New Jersey Certification Number?**
Customers must provide their **New Jersey Certification Number** to Sol Systems so the system can be registered with **PJM’s Generation Attribute Tracking System (GATS)**.
GATS is responsible for **minting SRECs** for systems in the PJM region.
### **What does a New Jersey Certification Number look like?**
A New Jersey Certification Number follows this format:
**NJ-######-SUN-I**
(Each “#” represents a digit.)
### **Where can I find my New Jersey Certification Number?**
The **New Jersey Clean Energy Program** sends certification numbers to the system owner by email.
- The email subject line is typically:
**“NJ SRP CERTIFICATION LETTER – COMPLIANT”**
